This and That

Last night I finished my first novel of the year. 11 more to go to meet my goal. I read The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold and enjoyed it. It was a tough read at some points (the murder), but overall it was a good story and neat concept. BF is coming up this weekend and we are going to see the movie The Lovely Bones on Saturday. I wonder if it will be anything like the book.

Today I did not get a call to work, so instead I made two pillows. They are called window-pane pillows. They look pretty good, I just need to stuff them and sew them shut. Maybe I will take a picture once they are complete. They are for my cousin and will go well with her room.

I also colour-coded the excel sheet I'm going to use to track expenses this year. It looks pretty :)

  1. I love the colour coding on the excel spreadsheet and I love that, with more updated versions, you can sort by the font or cell colour. SIGH...I am such a geek.

Think I might go out and get that book from the library. When I first saw the previews for the movie, I thought it was a freezer movie (what we call scary movies around here...freeze it up,never to watch again, sort of thing). I have sinced learned it's not really. Let us know how the movie compares to the book.

  2. I read the book when it first came out several years ago. I remember taking it on a may long weekend of camping where it ended up raining. I had hours to snuggle and read. This was just after the body of a little girl was found in Ontario. She'd been missing for days. Between the real news and the story, this book hit me hard and moved me deeply. That rarely happens for me.

Are you reading the book in preparation for the movie? I think it's about already, no?

  5. you know, you are inspiring me to make my own pillows. I would call my sewing capabilities as basic but that should allow me to make some pillows right? Have you had any difficulties with it?

  6. I too read that book when it first came out a few years ago, it's a good book. I've heard terrible things about the movie (from people who have also read the book) and that's kind of made me not want to see it. Let us know how it is though.

  7. youngandthrifty, the book comes out tomorrow night here in Ontario. I did read the book in preparation of the movie, but also I've wanted to read it for a year or so because I've heard it was good.

Financial Catastrophizer, you should definitely make a pillow! They are very easy, I just learned how to sew in November I think, and if I can do it you can for sure. I will take a picture tonight if I can and upload my pillow. Although it's not stuffed yet.
