It's December!! One more month until 2013!!
November was a pretty fast month, I felt really busy. Teaching a number of days. I was accepted onto our school board's LTO list. They are trying to make it more fair. I am terrible at interviews and felt I did awful but somehow I passed!! I am number 270 on the list...ugh.
I accepted a respite job in town. Three kids, one has some pretty major health issues, I go a couple of times a week bi-weekly. It's not a lot of income but it's something! The kids are pretty good too so I don't mind at all.
Today I applied for a new passport. My pictures are AWFUL. Does anyone ever look good in their passport photos?? Ah but they said it should be back in 2-5 weeks. My mom asked me if I was interested in joining her and my dad on a Florida trip this year, perhaps with my brother. I could end up doing that so I will now at least have the option with a passport.
I finished my final exam for my American Sign Language course. I think I did fairly well. After the exams we went out for a drink and appetizers and chatted. It was so nice. The teacher was good friends with my grandpa as well and told several stories about him. I miss him a lot but it's nice that people remember him.
I made a BIG purchase for myself recently. On cyber Monday I bought a DSLR camera. It's a Canon Rebel T4i. I have never used a digital SLR so it will take some time to learn. I'm excited about it though. I ordered it through Best Buy (It was over $500 off) and I STILL have not received it, according to my tracking it hasn't even been sent! I would like to learn how to do a few things before Christmas so I hope it comes soon!!!
I went to a Christmas party at my university roommate's house this weekend. I did a TON of baking for it!!! Gingerbread men (wearing ugly Christmas sweaters), snowman cupcakes, Grinch cookies, marshmallow butterscotch squares, peanut butter blossoms in red and green, Christmas rice krispy squares, Christmas brownies, and candycane bark. It all went over well at the party and I have a lot of leftovers I've been giving out to family and friends.
At the Christmas party I got the new T-Swift CD, a couple of books, a hoodie, a beer mug haha, chocolates and a candle.
Yesterday was my best friend's birthday. She came over and we went out for dinner and ate Christmas treats. Today she called me and told me that she was given T-Swift concert tickets for June in Toronto from her boyfriend and wants to take me! AHHHH I've never been to a concert that big, I am sooo excited!! I'll have to do something nice for her BF. So cool!!!

New $20s in Canada...controversy?
Today is the day the new $20 bills go into circulation. I really like the new bills they have been making. They are more durable and harder to counterfeit. However, I was also reading about them and a focus group seemed to think it was too "pornographic" and saw the twin towers in the design which was offensive.
It's ACTUALLY a picture of the vimy ridge memorial in France. I think it's a good thing Canada is putting things like this on our money because it will bring more awareness to history many Canadians didn't even know about.
Apparently this is not even the first time that Canadian's have done these focus groups and have seen questionable things on the money. Many thought they saw "a sex toy" in the $100 bills DNA strand, that the see-through windows looked like a woman's body, some thought Borden's eyes were crossed and that his mustache was unkempt.
Some thought the $50 bill had skull and crossbones in the portholes of the Amundsen. They thought the Inuit writing at the top (which translates to Arctic) was some sort of secret code. That Newfoundland/Labrador was possibly a bird or even Pinocchio. Oh CANADA!!

October Spending
November is here! I'm actually late in posting this, so it's been here for a bit. It was an okay October. I didn't get to savings, but have some set aside for November already. Oops!! I taught a few days in October, and finished up my restaurant job. Had Thanksgiving with work friends and D went to his family's house. We went camping for 3 days and stayed at a really cute cabin! We are staying at our apartment for a while longer, we didn't sign a lease but we gave post-dated cheques for the year. It's been kind of nice not working everyday of the week but I am missing the income.

Updates
I have not been blogging nearly as much as I have wanted, but life is busy! I've been working 6-7 days each week. However, Sunday was my last day at the restaurant. It's a seasonal restaurant so they have closed down until May. So bittersweet, I am really going to miss a lot of the people that worked there this summer, best one yet! I will also miss the added income, but it will be nice to have additional time to catch up on things.
D and I took three days off from work last week and went camping! We canoed for about 40 minutes, then hiked for an hour and a half (just because we had to make 2 trips) and then rowed for about 10 minutes to a little cabin on an island. It was an adorable cabin! It was a great few days as well. Much needed!
D and I were having some problems earlier this month and in September. Mostly myself getting mad at him for not spending time with me or lack of effort with everything, and he getting mad at me over little things too (i.e. he was so upset when I threw out expired meat). It was just bad, I think stress from our jobs was adding to it. It's been getting better now though, we talked about things a lot. It definitely made me question a lot of things though too. I want things to work out, I hope that they do! So far since our camping trip things have been a lot better, maybe it was just a little break from work that was needed.
My best friend's ex boyfriend passed away a couple of weeks ago from a drug overdose. She dated him for more than 3 years, but they broke up 4 years ago. He was a different person back then. I went with her to the memorial on Sunday, it was incredibly sad. A parent should never have to go through something like that. I also arrived second to the scene of a fatal car crash on my way home from work about a week and a half ago. Both instances made me realize that life is so short and that it's so much about the relationships you have.
I've been reading a bit more. I just finished "I've Got Your Number" by Sophie Kinsella. It was a fast read, not very believable, but entertaining. I bought it from a girl selling things on kijiji in my area. I bought 6 books, including one hardcover for $10! They are great, brand new looking!
I want to make something a little crafty too. Maybe some throw pillows for our ugly couches. I entered our couches into the Leon's room makeover contest and was surprised we didn't win!

Extreme Cheapskates
Have you heard of this new show on TLC? It gives you an inside look at some really cheap people in America. Some reuse toilet paper, dive in dumpsters for gifts, asking strangers for their leftovers. Check out a clip here from one of the shows.
Is there anything you do that you consider especially frugal?

September Spending!
I cannot believe it's already October!! September went by so fast! I worked a lot during September, even got 2.5 days of teaching in. Went to my elementary school's 25th anniversary with D, hung out with work friends a lot (I am going to miss them once the season is over), went out a couple of times with my brothers too.

Quick Thursday Updates
I reached my goal of saving $1000 for my parents yesterday! I have it all neatly placed in an envelope so I will have to make a trip out to where they camp to put the deposit on their seasonal dues for next year.
Work has been busy, which is great! I need to make money this summer!
I went to bingo the other day with my mom. It was so much fun but we didn't win anything.
We had dinner at D's family's house on Sunday. My cousin and her boyfriend joined us there. We went boating, ah I love summer!
D has a family reunion on Sunday, I have the day off work so it should be a good time. Will be nice to see that side of his family again. I have to either bring a dessert or a salad to the party, not sure which one to bring. His family gets pretty fancy with their desserts and I won't have a ton of time to make something up to their par.
We had an apartment fly infestation!! There were so many of them flying around. They would keep me up at night and they were just a nuisance in general. I put up some of those disgusting sticky tape things to catch them....did they ever work well! I should post the picture I took of one of them COVERED with flies! EWW!!!
I did day one of Jillian Michael's 30 day shred, it nearly KILLED me!!! I am way more out of shape than I thought! The days after the video were harder than the video itself! Might try to do another one today. My cousin said she is going to do it too starting on Monday.
I want a pet so badly. It doesn't make sense to have one in our apartment though. Instead I visit my parents a lot, but mostly just to play with their dog :)

July Spending
July absolutely flew by. I worked a ton which was great! I got a settlement for my car which went into savings. I celebrated my 27th birthday! D bought me new snorkelling gear for scuba diving and took me on a dive. We saw the fireworks, watched Spiderman, went on a date to a restaurant in town we've been wanting to go to forever. We went boating several times, and swimming. We went to Ribfest and my cousin and I made a bunch of treats for D's golf weekend with the boys.
July was an awesome month income-wise. I included the settlement as income, as well as tips, wages, and the paycheques I received from teaching.

I think August will be another great month. I plan on working as much as I can but also hope to have some fun with friends and D. Hope your July went well!

Future TFSA
I maxed out my TFSA this year so I have no more contribution room. I also withdrew $15,000 this year so it's pretty much depleted and I would like to get it back up and running for next year.
I created a regular savings account through ING and called it "Future TFSA."
I could have put money into the chequing account but it's at 0.25%, whereas a regular savings account is at 1.35%. ALMOST what the regular TFSA gives in interest currently. So I might as well make a bit of interest! By having a separate account I will know exactly how much I want to transfer over in the new year as well.
I put in $2000 today.

Updates For This Week
D and I went boating on Sunday. He taught me how to drive the boat!! It's kind of fun but I definitely prefer to be a passenger. We anchored the boat and went swimming at a beach before I had to go to work.
Work has been going well. I've been getting about 5 days a week which is exactly what I want. A girl told me that she wants to make $10,000 by the end of September and that would work out to be $833 a week. She is trying to pick up as many shifts as she can, I wonder if she will be able to make that goal?
On Wednesday, D and I did a group dive. It was the SAME location as last year which we were hoping to avoid but we both had the day off so decided we might as well take advantage of it. It was D's birthday present to me, he also bought me new snorkeling gear. I can't believe how expensive a mask and snorkel are! So it was really generous of him to buy it for me.
I have Sunday off! I haven't had an entire weekend day off in a long time, so I hope we are able to get up to doing something fun! I hope you enjoy your weekend!! :)

RSPs
I added $600 to the RSPs, and $200 to the Christmas fund.
Both are at my goals for the year now. RSPs are now at $1500, and Christmas is at $600, but I had $200 leftover from last year I did not use so it's really at $800.
I might contribute some more to RSPs but Christmas is done. Woo!
I have to remember to keep putting money aside so that I can replenish my TFSA when 2013 gets here.

Settlement Money
When I was in the car accident we went through insurance and just the other day they decided on a settlement. $2500....wow the car was definitely not worth that much....I think I paid $1500 for it from my parents in 2007!! Anyway, $500 was taken off due to the deductible.
My mom is giving the money to me.
I feel guilty about this. SHE originally bought the car, I paid less for it than she is giving me.
I told her I don't need all of that money and she said it's mine. That woman can be stubborn sometimes.
So what I think I am going to do is pay $1000 toward their seasonal dues at a campground resort they stay at every summer. The rest will go into savings.

Insurance Companies....
I planned to buy the car last week. I had been into the dealership quite a few times to check out the car, ask questions and test drive it. I decided I wanted it and decided to go ahead with everything. I did not have insurance in my own name since I was under my parents name before.
So I started to call around. I started with my parent's company since I was on record with them for about 10 years. They quoted me at $360 a month!! Uhh no.
An employee at the local high school told me to call this particular company, saying they offer great rates etc. I try it out and they won't even talk to me since I have a careless driving ticket issued to me. Okay then....moving on.
I went online to check out the best rates and Belair Direct came up. I call them up to get a quote and they say $250. Ughh better but I was still hoping for better.
The two speeding tickets and that major ticket are really working against me!!
My brother mentions he is with Desjardins so I call them and they quote me at $224. I still had one more evening before I HAD to get insurance so I said I said I would call them the next day if I was going to go with them.
I taught the next day and a friend of mine tells me that she is with TD financial and they offer discounts to college/university graduates. Why not call them too, so I do so after work and they quote me at $189.08. SOLD!!
Wow really helps to shop around. If I had gone with the original insurance company I would be paying an additional $171 per month, or $2052 a year!!

June Spending
June was a crazy month!!
I dealt with the stalker issue. The police helped out so it should be done with! I crashed my car :( It was a 1999, and I rear-ended my roommate from university while we were in Toronto. I went to my roommate's bridal shower. I witnessed a guy stop to help a turtle across the road. D and I had a chipmunk come into the apartment!! I maxed out my TFSA and I bought a NEW CAR in cash!!! D and I saw Snow White and the Huntsman and went to the local pub a few times for dates with friends.

July should be a great month. It's my birthday month, the weather looks like it will be amazing, and I only have one job this summer. Hope to get some savings in for next month though!
May Spending
Late Post!
May was a pretty good month. I saved $3 more than I spent the entire month. D and I went to see the Avengers, his first 3D movie! We also both got tickets from the police on the same day. Mine a speeding ticket, his was not having a renewed licence sticker. We planted our first veggie garden, we are beginning to see the rewards of that now! I quit my old serving job at the sushi restaurant and started working at the new busy restaurant. I made more than a typical month since my work in Toronto was paid this month.

Big Purchase....NEW CAR!!!
What did I use my TFSA money for???
Well although I maxed it out ($20,000) I took out $15,000 which went toward a new 2012 Nissan Versa. It's a blue sedan. It's so pretty and smells brand new! It has cruise control, bluetooth, a CD player, locking doors, power windows, lights that work without banging the gear shifter, etc.....all things my old car did not have. It has 45km on it, most of that was because I took it for THREE test drives!!
I paid for it IN CASH!!!!
Well $2000 on a credit card so I could collect some points (don't worry I will pay it off this month) and the rest which was ($15,453) was by cheque!
Why did I go new?
Well, I checked out several cars new and used and hardly any used cars were less than $13,000. If they were they were not what I was looking for, or had a ton of kilometres on them.
Nissan was having an employee pricing event, plus because I paid cash for the car I got another discount. This gave me more than $2000 off the sticker price. The sales guy gave me another $200 off and he bought me a bottle of wine!
Total for the car with taxes, fees, etc was $17,453. A lot more than I thought I was willing to spend, but I do not have to make payments on it EVER!! I am so happy :) I'll show you pictures soon.

New or New-To-Me??
That is the big question!!
I am interested in the Nissan Versa Sedan a lot. It's a small car, EXTREMELY good on gas, and it's pretty inexpensive.
I noticed this car at a gas station over two years ago and thought it looked alright. I now have met a few people that drive them (the hatchback version) and they love their cars.
It's funny exactly a year ago to the day of the accident, I wrote my roommate (who is the one we were following in Toronto to go pick up bridesmaids dresses) and told her that I hope my car lasts another year but that I have been considering the Nissan Versa. Exactly one year to the date of the accident!! The car lasted another year...
I have test drove two of the 2012 Versas. I also went to Toronto to check out a used version. They wanted too much for it, it was a 2011, but it had no "extras" and it was 45000km and only $3000 cheaper than a brand-new one.
I have the money saved up to be able to purchase the car brand-new but am just debating with myself whether it's worth the money. Where I could spend less on something cheaper which may not last as long but I would at least have more money sitting in the bank.
Decisions!!!
Anyway the number he gave me for a new 2012 Nissan Versa Sedan is $17,384. That is including EVERYTHING except licence. That is also as a cash purchase. Hmmmm I probably only have until the end of the week to now decide.

Cool Things
On Saturday I served a famous hockey player and his wife! I didn't realize it until they had left though. Still cool, we had a funny chat about a weird lady dancing to her ipod at the bar ;)
On Sunday a Deaf couple came in. They sat in my section. I went up to them not realizing they were Deaf and asked them how they were. No response, I asked again and then the girl looked up at me and told me they were Deaf. I don't know why but it actually surprised me. I told them that I knew a little bit of sign language and they ordered their drinks.
I came back and they ended up sitting at another table on the patio, I took their orders and brought them their food, asked them if everything was okay. Later I was clearing their plates and the girl asked me how I knew sign language, I told them that my grandparents were Deaf. I asked if they were from the area and they said no, that they were from Toronto. They asked if I was from the area and I told them the name of my town. They said it was nice to meet me and I said it was nice to meet them too. Short conversation and I took their plates back to the kitchen. There my manager said, "I just saw what you did and that was AMAZING!! I didn't know you could do that." I didn't realize he had been watching at all and it kind of made my day that he said something. It felt pretty good to be able to use my ASL at work.
Another thing that happened yesterday was I was travelling to work. I was going up this huge hill in an 80km/hr zone, going about 95km/hr and this guy was right behind me. Seemed like he was in some sort of a rush, just waiting to be able to pass me. Anyway, on the hill I saw something on the road and straddled it with my wheels, as I passed over it I noticed it was a turtle trying to cross the road, it still had a lane and a half to go. The guy behind me also straddled the turtle, then he pulled over to the side of the road, reversed his car, stopped and got out to help the turtle across the road. I just love people sometimes!

Stalker
Something else that has been going on. I've mentioned before here that I had a creepy guy (a dad of a kid I teach) leaving me gifts and notes. It started at the school and then he started leaving them in my car AT MY APARTMENT which is in a different town. Creepy.
In March he saw me going into my apartment and I decided then to confront him. The rest of the times I never saw him, he would just leave the gifts/notes. So I spoke with him saying that I wasn't interested, that I had a boyfriend and declined his 5-10 invitations requesting me to go to lunch with him. NO!! Anyway I thought after that conversation that the whole ordeal would be over.
The next day he came again. I went to the police first just to file a police report in case anything did happen, they would have record of it. I didn't know the man's name, address or licence plate number so there was nothing they could do at that time anyway. This went on from mid February to mid March. With that latest note he left the address of the place he was working, asking me to come by.
Instead my boyfriend went by. They even had a conversation but only about work. However while they were there D recorded his licence plate number. I kept it with me but didn't return to the police. I thought that since I had told him no, and then didn't show up to his workplace he would get the point. A month went by and nothing, yay!
I thought it was done with. Until maybe a week or so ago I got another gift. That same day I taught in his son's class and he told me that his dad is going to be so surprised I was his teacher and that his dad loves me. This man has 3 kids, and a wife (also works within the school board).
I went to the police the next day and they told me he WAS a stalker. They looked up his licence number and got a phone number and address, they informed me that he was born in 1961. So inappropriate! They called him and left a "cryptic message" and said they would call me the next day when they got in touch with him.
The called the next day and said they spoke with him. That he was very nervous and apologetic on the phone. They said that he is to have absolutely no contact with me. He asked if he could apologize to me and they said absolutely not, no contact whatsoever. If he does contact me again he will be charged with criminal harassment and that they will let this whole situation be known. They reminded him that he has a wife.
I felt a little bad about the whole situation right after that phone call. However my parents and D were both saying that he brought it on himself, that I asked him to stop and he continued and that I shouldn't feel bad.
I haven't seen or received anything from him since then so I am assuming it's over. I really hope it is!

Totaled My Car :(
Sunday I went to a bridal shower in Toronto. It was a lot of fun, the bridesmaids sang a song and played some games. Had a nice meal and I got to catch up with some friends I don't get to see often enough.
After the shower the bridesmaids were all travelling to pick up our dresses. We were all following the bride since we didn't know where we were going. The bride raced through a yellow light and the truck in front of me stopped at the red. I pushed the brakes to slow at the red and just plowed right into the truck.
My airbag went off, my car filled with smoke and I quickly turned off into the first empty parking space. The truck driver was my roommate from university. She pulls over and runs over to see how I am. I had hurt my arm but nothing serious. She was completely fine. She said she barely moved, THANK GOODNESS she was okay. I will try to upload a picture of my car because it was smashed right in. Her truck in perfect condition. She had an "illegal hitch" which saved the bumper from getting any damage. Thankfully.
The bride calls us and finally I answer and she comes by with the two other bridesmaids that were her passengers. She calls for help and eventually the police and a tow truck come.
I had to sit in my car the entire time since my emergency brake and the parking break both were not working and I would roll toward the road everytime I let go of the brake pedal. The hooked it up, took our statements and issued me a ticket for careless driving.
It's 6 points and $490. However if when I request a court date to fight the ticket, which the police officer recommended doing, as did the tow truck driver and my insurance company, that if the truck driver does not show for the court date the charges will be dropped. She has told me that she won't show, it's a 3 hour drive for her and she does not want to see me have to face the charges.
My car is now at an impound. I am going to miss that thing :( I have a rental covered my insurance for now. Ugh, I needed a new car but wanted to have time to shop around. This is no fun.
Through this whole ordeal though I learned that I have the best friends and family. They are so patient and forgiving. So nice and willing to help, give me a place to stay and offer a car to drive.

What's Goin' On
I haven't posted in a long time! I am just going to do a quick update because things are busy, which is good.
Saw the Avengers in 3D last night. It was way better than I was expecting. Thor is kind of dreamy ;) The hulk is hilarious.
I quit my serving job, Sunday was my last day. My boss asked me to stay on but I can't do it because I have another serving position. I've already had a couple of shifts at this new place. It's a very busy restaurant so it will be good once summer hits.
I was recommended 50 Shades of Grey by so many people. Our library didn't have it so I bought it online. I was telling my mom about this and she says, "It's erotic fiction." Awkward!!! I wouldn't have told her about the book if I had known that. Ah well.
I'm currently reading Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. It's about a waitress with an abusive past. It's good so far but I dislike when people fall in love SO fast.
Loving the song "Little Talks" by Of Monsters and Men.
I planted a ton of veggies and herbs a few weeks ago and have started to transplant them to pots. We don't have a yard at this apartment unfortunately. Hope they turn out!
Last night I had a major craving for devilled eggs and finished making them at 1:30am. Delicious!!
I hope all you mom's had a wonderful mother's day!!

Always Check Your Statements
I was looking online at my statement. I generally check it at least once a week just to see how much I have spent and making sure everything is correct.
I was looking online at my HBC statement and noticed something called Coverdell Canada Brampton xo. I was in Mississauga earlier in the month to do some marking but I couldn't remember purchasing anything in Brampton for $22 and change.
Not a huge deal, but not something I want to pay for if I didn't actually purchase it or want it!
I call the HBC mastercard company and ask about it and they say that I should have received a phone call or something in the mail talking about Total Home Care. I said I did not and am not interested in the service. She put me through to the Coverdell Canada people and I explained again.
The man seemed a little exasperated, I am sure he was receiving several of these phone calls. But it was a fast removal. I got a confirmation number and the man's name just in case, since I still do not see a credit for it on my statement.
Things like this frustrated me! I bet they get away with it with a ton of people, I know D definitely does not ever check his statements. If you have a HBC Mastercard, make sure to check your statements for this Coverdell.

April Spending
April went by pretty fast! I spent 6 days marking literacy tests in Toronto. I had an awesome time there, met some great people! I spent Easter with D's grandparents. I went to my roommate's engagement party and met her friends, all were really cool! I quit my job at the sushi restaurant, and was rehired at the restaurant I worked at last summer.

Thoughts of Going Overseas
I have been getting really frustrated with my current school board. I LOVE my job but I am not getting enough work and it doesn't look like there will be any permanent positions opening up for a LOOONG time.
I knew the job prospects when I was entering into teacher's college, I went for it anyway because teaching is what I want to do. However it will be 4 years since I graduated in June and I am tired of daily supply.
D and I have been talking occasionally about going overseas to work. He was totally on board over a year ago when I was still very hesitant. But now, I see it as an opportunity to teach and travel.
With my school board we have to work at least 15 full days per school year in order to keep our position on the supply list. So ideally I would prefer to leave in January in order to get those days in for the 2012-2013 school year.
Where have we been looking? D's first choice was Thailand. However D does not have a university degree and that would make getting a work visa extremely hard for him. It's a little sketchy to go on a tourist visa and work under the table. Also the pay is fairly poor in Thailand although living expenses are very inexpensive. I think I would rather go there for travel.
My first choice would be Holland. I was supposed to go there a couple of years ago with my ex and it didn't happen. I've always wanted to go there though. Some of my best friends are Dutch and I know Canadians are very welcomed there. I've applied to a bunch of international schools there but haven't heard anything promising back from them yet.
I posted my resume on a ESL job board and have received 3 job offers already, in less than a week, Taiwan and China. I think I would prefer a European country at this point though. I know you can make the most money in South Korea but I am looking for something different.
As of right now I am really thinking about Czech Republic. I wish flights weren't so expensive because I would love to check out some countries before making a decision! It would be nice to be able to apply in person. Anyway that is what we've been discussing lately. No guarantees it will actually happen though. Both sets of parents don't seem overly thrilled, and would rather us stay in Canada.

An Award
Maureen nominated me for an award! It's called the Leibster award and it's given to bloggers that have less than 200 followers who have a story/advice to share.
Now I am supposed to nominate 5 more bloggers and give you 5 facts that you may or may not know about myself.
Here we go...
1. I was a closet country fan all throughout high school and first year university. Now I am out of the closet, I love listening to the music and don't care who knows.
2. When I was about 10 my grandma said that she thought I would be a teacher when I grew up. She thought my brother would be prime minister. He tests beer for a living!
3. My favourite activities when I was a kid at home were building forts, playing with ninja turtles and watching Captain Planet.
4. I cannot stand carrots or mushrooms. I'm not a picky eater otherwise.
5. My boyfriend and I have the same last name. Spelled differently, pronounced the same! I was always bugged about marrying him in elementary school for that reason.
This is who I now nominate:
Two Degrees of Unemployment
Upendilife
Serendipity
Shaking the Money Tree
Making Sense of Sense

Fast Updates
I enjoyed my time in Toronto immensely! I met some great people at the job I was working at. Went out on the town (city) with some teachers. The work itself was fairly boring but had it's interesting highlights as well. I met up with my cousin and roommate from school as well.
Easter was fabulous as well! I drove back home and then D and I went to his grandparent's house together. We saw a Marlies game on Saturday where they WON in OVERTIME. It was exciting! We hung out with his family and ate amazing food. They STILL do an Easter egg hunt on the Sunday which is so much fun. Elbows out!
I will not be paid for my Toronto work until mid-May so this month's paycheques will be small. I am not sure how much savings I will get to.
I finally finished reading Oryx and Crake. It had an ending that made me want to read the next one. I may do that once I finish a few more books on my list. I am currently reading The Shack. D's aunt let me borrow it.
My ASL course has been cancelled :( They needed 8 people to sign up in order for it to run and only 5 actually signed up. The downside of living in a small town!
D and I had a lazy weekend. I worked Saturday night. Spent part of Friday night hanging out with my parents and their dog. The rest of the time was watching movies, reading books. I am also making a card game that I got into last week. It's called SET, has anyone played it? I couldn't find it in the stores and it's easy enough to make on my own. Almost done!

Boys are SOMETIMES cute
I am writing you from the big city of Toronto! I am staying at a hotel here until NEXT WEDNESDAY and doing some teaching related work. A little working vacation. So far so good too. I've met a number of really cool people.
Yesterday I was off. I cleaned the apartment, made dinner and did the dishes (D's job). He came home and we talked about stuff ate dinner with candles and he helped me take my stuff to the car. As I am walking down the steps I notice there are flowers on my passenger side. I turn to him and say "he was here again." That man has left me flowers on my passenger seat TWICE before. We get closer and there is a note saying "I'll miss you" and I look at D and he has a big smile on his face. They were from him!! So sweet!
I may have hit him for scaring me but I was totally surprised. It was so nice of him and now they are sitting in my hotel room in a coffee thermos! I need to get some taller vases ;)

March Spending
March went by pretty quick! It was my 3 paycheque month but I was only paid twice due to lack of teaching and March Break :( It was D's birthday which ended up being really expensive! We went to a Leaf game, I bought him tickets to see the Marlies for April. We went out for dinner. We went to see the Hunger Games!! Hung out with friends, had a bunch of people over for St. Patrick's Day. I did a girls shopping weekend with D's mom and sister and I filed a police report on a scary man.
Rent (19%) ACTUAL: 0% This is because I paid for D's Jeep to be fixed.

I am happy with how March turned out. I ended up being able to save a decent amount and didn't spend too much even with a shopping trip in there! I am hoping April will be just as good. Hopefully some more TFSA and RSP savings! Nothing too exciting is happening in April so spending should be normal.

RRSP Contribution and Respite Issue
As I was doing my taxes and inputted my RSP contributions there was this little sliding scale that would tell me how much I would owe or get as a return depending on my RSP contribution. I owed with my $2000 last year. But with just a few more contributions I would have been getting money back and had more in my RSPs.
Ugh.
So this year I am going to contribute more! I NEED to. I don't want to have to pay taxes again next year making as little as I do. I contributed another $500 last night. I am 75% of my $1200 goal for the year, but I think I can exceed it.
Today I was also paid $140 for some respite care I've done. However I have driven the kid around a ton and not received any mileage so I am currently emailing the caseworker asking if I am going to be paid some mileage. I've put over 350km on my car with this kid, plus she lives about 25km away so probably closer to 500km. She's a great kid and I'd love to continue to work with her but it's just getting to be too much and after the cost of gas is factored into it, I'd be making under minimum wage!

Quick Updates
I paid my taxes....$436 ugh!!
D and I went to a Leaf game last night. They played the Carolina Hurricanes and lost 3-0. They are now officially out of the running for a playoff spot. 7th year in a row...
D made me dinner one night after work. A crockpot dinner so it wasn't ready until LATE but it was delicious once it was ready (yes we stayed up for it), and leftovers are always awesome!
My parents come back from Florida on Friday and I am going to have to give their dog back. She has been staying at our apartment for almost 2 weeks now. I don't want to give her back!
I am going to a job fair this weekend for a restaurant, I need to get out of where I am. I am also going to do some respite work this weekend.
There was a Brinks truck that had an accident in Northern Ontario this morning spilling about $3million worth of loonies and toonies. Then a CANDY truck also collided. Not sure if candy was spilled though.

Added to the Funds, Got Another Job
Woo managed to add another $500 to my TFSA last night, only $2000 left to max it out for the year and there are still NINE months left this year. Totally doable.
I also brought my "Extra Income" up over 50% of my total goal for the year. I've been doing a bunch of respite and restaurant work.
I also was informed that I have been accepted to mark the EQAO literacy test in April. They are going to pay my mileage, pay for a hotel for the 6 days, give me a daily allowance for food. It should be interesting.

Owing Taxes
Ugh this is the first year I am ever going to have to OWE on my taxes. I am STILL waiting on one T4 which is going to make the amount I owe even worse! I am frustrated, so ILLEGAL to keep my T4 from me this long. I am hoping to get it tonight! I just want to get this tax thing over with!
I did D's taxes for him and he gets over $800 back!! Lucky guy. Maybe he will take me out for dinner for doing his taxes when he gets his return?
Anyway this weekend was great. We went out for dinner and then went to see 21 Jumpstreet with friends of ours. We arrived late though so had to sit in the front row. Not fun haha. Saturday was St. Patrick's Day. We had a bunch of people over to our tiny apartment. D's sister and brother-in-law stayed over. It was a lot of fun, Irish jigs were involved haha. Sunday we slept in to recover a bit and then went to D's house for his belated birthday dinner.
His sister and brother-in-law got him "Game of Thrones" season one for his birthday. We watched two episodes last night. Not too sure what I think of it just yet. Have you seen it? And who is excited for The Hunger Games to come out on Friday???

Police Report Complete
Without going into too many details as I am still not sure what the outcome is going to be, I have filed a police report on a man.
This man is a father of a couple of kids at one of the schools I teach at. He has been leaving me unwanted notes and gifts on and in my car, about 5 times since the end of February. How he knows my car I don't know. How he found my car parked at my apartment, I have no idea! He obviously knows where I live which is creepy since he is from another town. I am so glad I live in a very busy and public part of town!
I have asked him to stop. I told him I am not interested and that I have a boyfriend and I received another note yesterday and that was the final straw for me. I didn't want to go to the police but the few friends and my mom (who I just told on Monday) I did tell about the situation thought it would be a good precautionary detail.
The police said they can call him if I find out a few more details (I don't know his first name, or his license number), but they think I should tell him to stop once more the next time I speak to him in person and mention that I will go to the police if he does not.
Not a fun situation especially since it is kind of involving my work. I haven't spoken to the principal at the school at all since I am hoping it will end on it's own. It's just really awkward and I wish it wasn't happening!

Working, Resting, and Taxes
It's been a busy few weeks.
A couple of weekends ago I went to Toronto with D's mom. We met up with his sister who lives there and stayed at her place for 3 nights. It was a nice girls weekend. We went shopping and saw the new Marilyn movie. We went out for dinners and drinks. Toronto is such a cool place!
Last week D's parents took us out to a local pub for D's early birthday. We had amazing food and drinks. They stayed at our apartment afterward and then D went to work in the morning. His family is so sweet.
Monday was D's birthday, we both worked and then I took D out for dinner. It was expensive!! Almost $90!! That's why we don't go out very often! That would be a weeks worth of groceries!! I made carrot cake so we had that at home. I gave him his gift as well, 2 Leaf tickets, a sci-fi book, a crockpot book, and 6 Marlies tickets. He was happy and is excited about the games.
I've been doing some respite work lately and will do 4 days this week. It can be tough sometimes but rewarding as well. Some of these kids have such sad situations. I am also working at the restaurant quite a bit. Last night was busy and tips were good. I am hoping tonight will be similar.
I need to do my taxes soon but am still waiting on TWO T4 slips!! Shouldn't they just be sending them instead of me having to call and e-mail them?? Grrr.

February Spending
February seemed like a really LONG month!! It was busy but also dragged on. D had a pond hockey tournament in early February. They won one and lost two but it was a fun time. I picked out my bridesmaid's dress for my roommates wedding. We went out to a local pub for Valentine's dinner and liked it so much we went the next week too! I got stuck in a snowbank for several hours on my way to an ASL weekend. So glad March is here now. Here's how February spending went:
Rent (19%) ACTUAL: 10%
Hydro (3%) 4%
Internet (3%) 5% Ugh we went over our limit again. Now I know what the issue was though so it should be lower next month!
Laundry (2%) 1% Ugh, hate this expense
Car and Gas (11%) ACTUAL: 7% New windshield wiper
Phone (3%) ACTUAL: 2%
Food (8%) ACTUAL: 4%
Restaurant (3%) ACTUAL: 4%
Personal/Medical (4%) ACTUAL 8% haircut, prescription
Clothing (5%) ACTUAL: 1% A shirt for work
Gifts (5%) ACTUAL 11% Birthday present for D (books and sports tickets)
Education (2%) ACTUAL 13% Yikes, this was for ASL weekend, a book for my next course, and my OCT membership
Entertainment (3%) ACTUAL 2%
Everything Else (5%) ACTUAL: 17% Ugh so high!! I had to buy a sleeping bag. Also got some towels, paid for something on D's jeep (which will mean no rent for me for March), and half of my bridesmaid's dress.
TOTAL (73%) ACTUAL 91% Ugh I went way over on this again. Must keep this in better check. March should be better since it's a 3 paycheque month and I don't foresee any major expenses since they are out of the way already. Anyway onto savings...
TFSA (15%) ACTUAL: 7%
Christmas (3%) ACTUAL: 0%
Camera (3%) ACTUAL: 0%
RRSP (5%) ACTUAL: 7%
Travel Fund (3%) ACTUAL: 4%
TOTAL (28%) ACTUAL 19% A little lower than I had hoped but March I WILL do better!! I wasn't expecting to pay for D's Jeep repair and that made me save less this month.
March I think will be a good month. It's D's birthday month and March Break!!! (although I will still be doing some respite care over the break instead of teaching), St. Patrick's day and THREE paycheques! I am going shopping this weekend with D's mom and sister but I won't go overboard. Hopefully I can get my income tax done this month as well (just waiting on one more employer), maybe a RETURN will be in my April future??

Ups and Downs
You remember that manager at my restaurant job that I really disliked? He was condescending and rude to employees AND customers. Well last Friday he came into work a little bit before his shift started....DRUNK....and he quit. The boss asked if he was giving his notice and he said no and that was it. So life around there has been slightly better, I still wish I didn't have to work there though.
Teaching work has been picking up just slightly. Yay...never enough though it seems.
I feel poor lately. I don't even have the option of quitting the restaurant if I want to continue having savings every month. Bills add up really fast and there are things that I would like to do that cost a lot of money. I am glad that March is a 3 paycheque month for me. Hopefully that will help.
On Friday I went to my ASL weekend and got lost. It was also the day we got about 15cm of snow. I was in the middle of nowhere trying to figure out where to go and I went to turn left but instead slid straight into a snowbank. I didn't damage my car but I was STUCKKKK!!! Tires spinning. Over an hour away from home, in the dark, on a middle-of-nowhere road. I called my dad. He came which took over an hour and a half with my brother and they were able to get me out. THANK GOODNESS they were around. I am going to buy them dinner and bring it over for them as a thank you.
On the bright side, my ASL weekend was great! It was really nice to be able to practice signing with Deaf and hearing people interested in ASL. I hope to take more courses soon when they are offered in my area.

Tagged and Questions for YOU
I was tagged by Two Degrees! I'd love for you to answer my questions at the bottom too!
1. What does your wallet looked like? Is it organized or cluttered?
It's pretty organized. I used to LOVE my wallet. I still love the colours but I sort of want something smaller. But for now it works just fine.
2. If you had $10 to spend on a date, where would you go?
A date, ah we haven't done that in a long time! I think we would likely just rent a movie, or pick up some treats and watch one we already have.
3. If you had $200 to spend on a date, where would you go?
I would love to go see a hockey game with D. Go Leafs Go!
4. What was the first blog that got you into PF blogging?
Gail Vaz-Oxlade's blog. But from there I found a bunch of others I really enjoyed which inspired me to make my own.
5. What was the last thing you purchased?
I purchased my Ontario College of Teacher's Membership for $138 today.
6. Do you ever pay full-priced for books? Why or why not?
Yes, I generally pay full-price when I do buy books. I don't buy books very often, I'm a huge library goer or I borrow books from friends. But I do buy kids books and the occasional book for myself and I'll buy it new. It's just easier, and I know what I am getting.
7. What is one thing you absolutely refuse to pay for?
Hmmm hard question! I think the one thing I have learned to refuse to pay for is bank fees. For a while there I was paying them until I upped the amount I kept in my account to avoid the fees, and also switched to a no-fee bank! Never again!
8. What do you like to do to relax and unwind?
Pinterest, movies, reading, baking, hanging out with D.
9. If you could resurrect one musician from the dead and watch him/her perform, who would it be?
Michael Jackson. He was a little bit of a strange guy but he could sure dance!!
10. What would your ideal retirement look like?
I would love to actually retire in the town I currently live in. It's sort of a retirement location anyway. It's a beautiful place. Hopefully I would have enough in my retirement funds to not have to worry about money and be able to live happily with the one I love.
11. Are you going to do your taxes by yourself this year?
No, I've never done my own taxes. I really should learn. My dad ends up doing them for me so it's still free. He's just a procrastinator and doesn't finish them as early as I would like him to.
Here are my questions!
